It\u2019s too sunny,\u201d Cusack added. \u201cI don\u2019t even like the sun, so I couldn\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 63-year-old star, who was born in New York City, noted that she\u2019s \u201cnever lived anywhere\u201d besides Chicago, where she chose to raise her two sons, Dylan, 29, and Miles, 26, with her husband, attorney Richard Burke.<\/p>\n<p>But Cusack admitted she struggled balancing her Hollywood career with her low-key family life in Chicago, especially while starring in \u201cShameless\u201d from 2011 to 2015. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Cusack (seen above with her family) chose never to live in LA and instead raised her two sons in Chicago with her husband Richard Burke. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for Disney<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Cusack (pictured here with her family at the \u201cToy Story 5\u201d Los Angeles premiere) said she used to struggle with balancing her career with her low-key family life. <span class=\"credit\">Rob Latour\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen [the boys] were younger, there was always that [struggle of] . . . \u2018I should be home,&#8217;\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then I\u2019d be home and I\u2019d be like, \u2018I should be at work,&#8217;\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Cusack reprises her role as Jessie in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/16\/entertainment\/toy-story-5-review-franchises-best-movie-in-16-years-hilariously-tackles-ai\/\">\u201cToy Story 5,\u201d<\/a> her first major movie role since 2019\u2019s\u00a0\u201cToy Story 4.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cI\u2019d be home and I\u2019d be like, \u2018I should be at work,&#8217;\u201d Cusack recalled in the interview. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The actress (seen above with her husband at the \u201cToy Story 5\u201d UK premiere) recently made her first red carpet appearance in nearly 11 years. <span class=\"credit\">Dave Benett\/WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She attended the new film\u2019s London premiere on May 28, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/28\/celebrity-news\/joan-cusack-makes-first-red-carpet-appearance-in-11-years-at-toy-story-5-premiere\/\">marking her first red carpet in nearly 11 years.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Her husband and sons joined her for the movie\u2019s LA premiere on June 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my life, I haven\u2019t really done that many of those things,\u201d\u00a0she told People of the UK premiere. \u201cI think I turned the corner with my husband and was like, \u2018Whoa. What\u2019s going on here?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then those guns popped the confetti out and I was like, \u2018Whoa.
