Mrs Sanderson decided to cross the road in front of the stationary car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: \u201cMaureen is seen to raise her hand out in the \u2018thank you\u2019 motion towards the car, seemingly thanking this defendant for waiting. Mrs Sanderson, Maureen, reaches the midpoint of the Nissan Juke. This defendant drives forwards and collides with her. Maureen falls to the ground and is taken underneath the Nissan Juke.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The court heard that Mrs Sanderson was taken to Queen\u2019s Medical Centre in Nottingham, but she was pronounced dead less than two days later on October 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Spowage, who has been driving for nearly 30 years, already had three points on her licence for speeding on a 30mph road two years earlier, the court was told.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Judge Steven Coupland told the defendant that Mrs Sanderson was \u201centitled to cross the road where she did\u201d. He said: \u201cYou are here because you did not keep a proper look out or check before moving off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Defence barrister Lucky Thandi said \u201cthere wasn\u2019t a complete check to the left\u201d by Spowage, but she did \u201ccheck to the right which is the direction traffic was flowing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Ms Thandi said: \u201cIt\u2019s plain, as Your Honour has already noted, that there was a number of seconds between which Mrs Sanderson would have been in view and the point at which the impact occurs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The barrister said of the defendant: \u201cShe now knows for the rest of her life she will carry the guilt. She accepts not just through her guilty plea \u2026 that she was responsible for this and does not seek to diminish that responsibility in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The court heard Mrs Sanderson was described as a \u201cstrong lady with a zest for life\u201d by her loved ones. Michelle Sanderson, Mrs Sanderson\u2019s daughter, described seeing her mother\u2019s clothes \u201ccut from her\u201d after the collision and \u201cher favourite coat covered in blood\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In a victim impact statement read to the court by the prosecutor, she said Mrs Sanderson\u2019s family had to make the decision to turn off the pensioner\u2019s ventilator.
