Taylor Swift could lose control of some of her biggest hits after producers Max Martin and Shellback sold their catalog to an investment firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut depending on exactly what HarbourView acquired and how the relevant publishing and administration agreements are structured, it could give HarbourView a say in certain uses of songs written with Max Martin, Shellback, or other Wolf Cousins writers,\u201d Biggers said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThat matters when a particular use requires clearance of both the master recording and the underlying composition, such as a film or TV placement, an ad campaign, certain social-media uses, or other synchronization opportunities,\u201d Biggers added.<\/p>\n
Swift\u2019s songs reportedly included in Wolf Cousins\u2019 deal with HarbourView include her 2014 song \u201cStyle\u201d from the \u201c1989\u201d album, and 2017\u2019s \u201c\u2026Ready for It?\u201d from her \u201cReputation\u201d album. The acquisition does not, however, involve every Swift track associated with Wolf Cousins.<\/p>\n\u201cIt could have approval rights or meaningful leverage that\u00a0affect\u00a0how Swift can use those recordings in certain contexts,\u201d Biggers said of the impact on Swift (above). Therefore, the value of the Swift songs in HarbourView\u2019s portfolio could rise as the pop star\u2019s cultural influence and legacy continue to expand.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Swift continues to grow her brand and reinforce her place as a legendary pop artist, HarbourView stands to benefit from the enduring value of those songs and Swift\u2019s evolution from a generational star into a lasting figure in the pop-music canon,\u201d Biggers said.<\/p>\n
Sources told Variety on Wednesday that the acquisition price was in the low nine figures \u2014 though HarbourView did not confirm and would not disclose the terms of the deal. <\/p>\n

Their new partnership with the private firm reportedly includes Grande\u2019s tracks \u201cProblem,\u201d \u201cInto You,\u201d and \u201cNo Tears Left To Cry,\u201d The Weeknd\u2019s \u201cCan\u2019t Feel My Face,\u201d Imagine Dragons\u2019 \u201cBeliever,\u201d Ellie Goulding\u2019s \u201cLove Me Like You Do,\u201d Tove Lo\u2019s \u201cHabits (Stay High)\u201d and DNCE\u2019s \u201cCake By The Ocean,\u201d among other songs. <\/p>\n
Swift\u2019s first six albums were originally owned by her former record label, Big Machine Records, which was acquired by Scooter Braun in 2019. <\/p>\n
The \u201cShake It Off\u201d artist, 36, publicly objected to the sale, claiming that she was not given a fair opportunity to buy her masters.<\/p>\nSwift announced in an Instagram post (above) in May that she bought back her entire masters. Taylor Swift\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cAll of the music I\u2019ve ever made \u2026 now belongs\u2026 to me,\u201d Swift (above) shared at the time. Taylor Swift\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nIn 2020, Braun sold the masters to Shamrock Capital, and Swift savagely responded by re-recording several of her old albums as \u201cTaylor\u2019s Version\u201d releases to reclaim control over her music. <\/p>\n
In May 2025, Swift announced that she had finally bought back her entire masters<\/a>. <\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. All of the music I\u2019ve ever made \u2026 now belongs\u2026 to me,\u201d she announced at the time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
