Losing people you love because you\u2019re openly Jewish, or Jewish adjacent like my husband, is a grief most of us never expected to carry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He also offered encouragement to others navigating similar experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people who stay, and the ones who show up when you least expect it, become your chosen family,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re the reminder that you\u2019re not alone. Don\u2019t shrink yourself to keep anyone else comfortable. The New York Times once described him as \u201ca whisperer to the stars\u201d for his work helping public figures communicate the nuances of the conflict. While he is an outspoken supporter of Israel, Mazzig has also consistently voiced support for Palestinians\u2019 right to self-determination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/11\/02\/business\/media\/hen-mazzig-hollywood-israel-gaza.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speaking to NYT<\/a>, Mazzig said his advocacy is rooted in the pursuit of peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy entire life, I was told to be ashamed of part of my identity: my parents, my gay identity, being progressive, being pro-Israel, being Zionist, being pro-Palestine,\u201d he said. \u201cThere were always some people who took issue with me.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Mazzig says \u201cDon\u2019t shrink yourself to keep anyone else comfortable.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for Anti-Defamation League<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI think that is what prepared me to deal with this time where a lot of people are very angry, and there\u2019s a lot of hate, and there\u2019s a lot of shame,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I know how to be confident in standing up for what\u2019s right without compromising my values.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The film is directed by Maya Schulefand.
