And there\u2019s no way you would know this. It\u2019s pronounced Coburn (KOH-burn),\u201d the director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tJhB3Qgb3E0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on the \u201cArmchair Expert\u201d podcast <\/a>Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s spelled Cockburn. It\u2019s a Scottish name. Just so that you can grow up with something to be totally bullied for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though Wilde said she was made fun of for her unique last name, she believes it was an \u201cearly important lesson\u201d in being able to laugh along.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was funny, too. I was like, \u2018Oh, I get it,&#8217;\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n<p>The actress chose to change her last name to Wilde in high school to honor the legendary Irish author and poet Oscar Wilde.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (seen above) said she was made fun of for her unique last name. <span class=\"credit\">YouTube\/@armchairexpertpod<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The actress (seen above at the \u201cInvite\u201d premiere in June) changed her last name to Wilde in high school to honor the writers in her family. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a previous <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20150519064229\/http:\/\/www.playboy.com\/articles\/20q-olivia-wilde\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Playboy<\/a>, the \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d star said she also wanted to honor the writers in her family, \u201cmany of whom created pen names for their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a grandfather who changed his name to James Helvick to write the novel\u00a0\u2018Beat the Devil\u2019, which got turned into a movie with Humphrey Bogart,\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always thought having a pen name was so romantic.
