I have a lot of confidence with riding a certain style, like English style, but this was Western, different.\u201d<\/p>\nOlivia Wilde (seen above) opened up about how she had a near-death experience on the set of the 2011 film \u201cCowboys & Aliens.\u201d Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard\/Youtube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nOn Monday\u2019s episode of the \u201cArmchair Expert\u201d podcast, the actress recalled almost being squashed in a horse stampede before Walton Goggins (seen here) saved her. REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<\/aside>\nWilde, 42, explained she was two months into working on the film with Goggins, alongside co-stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, admitting they had \u201cgotten really cocky\u201d with riding. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we were pretty competitive,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it was me and Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford galloping like full sprint across the desert with like 40 horses behind us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were leading the charge to fight the aliens,\u201d the \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d star continued. \u201cWe got to a part where I could see ahead of us that there was a large ditch, like a 6-foot ditch, and I was like, \u2018This horse is going to jump that ditch.’\u201d<\/p>\nThe \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d star (seen above in \u201cCowboys & Aliens) explained how she was riding a horse in front of 40 other horses when she noticed a huge ditch in front of her. Universal Pictures<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cAnd I was like, \u2018This horse is going to jump that ditch,’\u201d Wilde added. \u00a9Universal\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nWilde reflected on riding a Western saddle with no helmet when the accident occurred, adding, \u201cSure enough, this horse jumps and bucks me off in the craziest way, and I fell off.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI hit my head and my back,\u201d she said. \u201cI was on the other side of this kind of like lip of dirt, so meaning that the 40 horses behind me couldn\u2019t see me. And there was a lot of dust. I remember my ear to the group, and I could hear it, and it sounded like thunder.\u201d <\/p>\n

And then Wal Goggins had seen it ahead of him and in a split-second thought to turn his horse sideways right in front of me and let everyone kind of bash into him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he\u2019s a great rider, so he was able to handle that,\u201d Wilde continued. \u201cAnd people split the two sides around us thinking he had just like gone insane, but he was protecting my body on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cTron: Legacy\u201d star concluded, \u201cSo I owe him my life. It\u2019s crazy. He\u2019s a real-life hero.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cThen Wal Goggins had seen it ahead of him and in a split-second thought to turn his horse sideways right in front of me and let everyone kind of bash into him,\u201d she said about the actor (seen here in September). Elsewhere in the interview, Wilde gushed over her co-star Paul Dano, whom she described as the \u201cnicest person\u201d when she worked as a casting intern long before filming \u201cCowboys & Aliens.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone else treated me like low-level staff except Paul Dano, the nicest person in the world,\u201d she said. \u201cThen being able to work with him on \u2018Cowboys & Aliens,\u2019 we just had the best time.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
