{"id":7551,"date":"2026-07-01T23:11:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T23:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/login9ja.com\/global\/collin-gosselin-reveals-real-reason-why-he-believes-mom-kate-sent-him-to-behavioral-facility-at-age-12\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T23:11:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T23:11:58","slug":"collin-gosselin-reveals-real-reason-why-he-believes-mom-kate-sent-him-to-behavioral-facility-at-age-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/login9ja.com\/global\/collin-gosselin-reveals-real-reason-why-he-believes-mom-kate-sent-him-to-behavioral-facility-at-age-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Collin Gosselin reveals real reason why he believes mom Kate sent him to behavioral facility at age 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F3%2F2026%2F07%2F132966572.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Collin Gosselin revealed he believes his famous mom, Kate Gosselin, sent him to a behavioral facility at the age of 12 because he didn\u2019t want to be on camera with her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven as a 12-year-old, before I was sent away, I could start to consider both sides of things,\u201d Collin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WigAZuJPqQg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the US Sun <\/a>during a September 2025 interview, which has now been published in its entirety, adding that he \u201creally could look at things in retrospect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I was stubborn enough to question my mom,\u201d he continued. \u201cI questioned her about everything, and that came before the rebellion of me not wanting to be on camera and be a part of her circus,\u201d he added, referring to her decision to continue on with \u201cKate Plus 8\u201d following her 2009 divorce from Jon Gosselin. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat questioning led to me later not wanting to be on camera, and that really killed her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collin, who was sent to a facility back in 2016 due to Kate\u2019s claim that he had \u201cunpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards\u201d family members, also wondered if the reality star\u2019s \u201creputation\u201d played into the decision. <\/p>\n<p>He was there for nearly two years before his Jon obtained sole custody of Collin in 2018. Prior to his institutionalization, however, Kate had custody of Collin and his siblings \u2014 sextuplets Collin, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, Joel and Hannah, 22, and twins Cara and Madelyn, 25.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Collin Gosselin, seen above in a recent social media post, revealed that he believes his mother, href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/29\/celebrity-news\/how-collin-gosselin-feels-about-sister-hannah-mending-relationship-with-estranged-mom-kate\/\">bonded with her mother.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what reason it was, whether it was her reputation she was saving by sending me away from home, or whether it was the fact that maybe it\u2019s easier to sign a work permit for seven children that are voluntary, instead of seven children that are voluntary and one that\u2019s involuntary,\u201d Collin said during the interview, claiming that there \u201care a lot of things to question there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\">He also said that while he was away at the institution, he was visited by his mother \u201cone time for probably about 20 minutes,\u201d and that \u201cthe whole time I was blamed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\">Collin said it was \u201cabout a year of me being there, and the whole time I had these glasses on and tears coming down my face,\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\">He recalled being \u201coverweight\u201d and \u201csick\u201d as he was \u201con all these medications\u201d at the time. <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\">He also alleged that during the visit, his mother, now 51, told him \u201cthat I broke her family, that my siblings <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/08\/09\/celebrity-news\/kate-and-jon-gosselins-son-collin-pens-message-to-estranged-siblings\/\">want nothing to do with me,<\/a> all that href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/video\/collin-gosselin-set-to-release-bombshell-memoir-with-harrowing-stories-about-his-estranged-mom-kate\/\">release of his bombshell memoir<\/a>, \u201cIn the Shadow of Eight,\u201d in which he plans to expose Kate\u2019s alleged wrongdoings during his childhood \u2014 previously claimed she had sent him to the institution in order to hide what he says was abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was starting to tell people what was going on at home, and she caught wind of that and had to put me somewhere where I wouldn\u2019t be able to get the secrets out,\u201d he said in 2023\u2019s \u201cDark Side of the 2000s.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kate, meanwhile, has consistently claimed mental illness has been behind her son\u2019s accusations. \u201cMy son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years,\u201d she said in part in a 2023 statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters, and for his own well-being, he was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/07\/21\/kate-gosselin-claims-troubled-son-collin-regularly-attacks-dad-jon-sister-hannah\/\">placed in a facility <\/a>following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>She added that she believes he \u201cremains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help,\u201d and claimed that his \u201cbrothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/30\/celebrity-news\/kate-gosselin-calls-son-collin-mentally-ill-ahead-of-memoir-release\/\">doubled down<\/a>, writing that \u201conly parents who have a mentally ill child understand,\u201d after a follower wrote that her \u201cheart is with\u201d the \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d alum amid Collin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/30\/celebrity-news\/collin-gosselin-claims-estranged-mom-kate-would-pray-to-god-to-stop-hitting-him-when-he-was-2-years-old\/\">escalating claims<\/a> of wrongdoing by his mother.<\/p>\n<p>Collin alleged back in 2024 that he was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/08\/14\/parents\/collin-gosselin-i-was-discharged-from-marines-due-to-kate-institutionalizing-me\/\">discharged from the Marines<\/a> due to his time in the behavioral institution. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing in an institution, that\u2019s good enough \u2026 to discharge me,\u201d he told Entertainment Tonight. \u201cIt was the fact that I was in an institution and that\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Kate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/30\/parents\/kate-gosselin-hits-back-at-son-collins-public-plea-for-lie-detector-test-ahead-of-memoir\/\">told a follower via social media<\/a> that she would not respond to her son\u2019s 2025 challenge to take a lie detector test over his claims she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/09\/10\/parents\/kate-gosselins-son-collin-claims-she-locked-him-in-basement\/\">locked him in the basement<\/a>, with zip-tied ankles and wrists.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, lawyer Richard Puleo told the Sun that he did not believe Kate had engaged in anything that would \u201cintentionally harm\u201d Collin, adding, \u201cshe did what she did to protect herself and her
