{"id":8663,"date":"2026-07-13T18:54:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T18:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/login9ja.com\/global\/painting-that-andy-warhol-did-in-a-new-york-restaurant-turns-up-in-austria\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T18:54:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T18:54:16","slug":"painting-that-andy-warhol-did-in-a-new-york-restaurant-turns-up-in-austria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/login9ja.com\/global\/painting-that-andy-warhol-did-in-a-new-york-restaurant-turns-up-in-austria\/","title":{"rendered":"Painting that Andy Warhol did in a New York restaurant turns up in Austria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F3%2F2026%2F07%2F133866351.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A forgotten Andy Warhol work made up of handprints is poised to make waves in Austria.<\/p>\n<p>In 1985, restaurateur Peter Herrero asked his regulars to paint their own tables at short-lived The Strand, and one habitu\u00e9 got her pal Warhol to help.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>A rare Andy Warhol collab with Dolly Fox to exhibit in Austria.  <span class=\"credit\">Page Six<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Fox and Warhol painted the table top in 1985.  <span class=\"credit\">2026 Richard Bayerl\/Artdeluxe<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cNobody was allowed to take pictures, so there was no press,\u201d she said, \u201cIt truly was a blip in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it was lively.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant didn\u2019t have a cabaret license, but Fox \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/11\/13\/celebrity-news\/charlie-sheen-and-his-80s-ex-dolly-fox-have-gotten-closer-since-the-release-of-the-book-of-sheen\/\">who went on to date Charlie Sheen<\/a> \u2014 said they would lock the door at closing, shove the tables back and dance the rest of the night away.<\/p>\n<p>She tells us that Herrero asked his friends to paint the tables. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Artist] Peter Max, Christopher Walken \u2014 whoever was around at the time\u2026 He would\u2019ve asked all of his superstar friends, but it was spur of the moment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Austrian filmmaker Robert Hofferer found Fox after discovering her signature on the art piece.  <span class=\"credit\">2026 Richard Bayerl\/Artdeluxe<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Charlie Sheen wrote about dating Fox in his memoir.  <span class=\"credit\">Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And Fox, who was an editor at Warhol\u2019s Interview magazine and shows up a number of times in the \u201cAndy Warhol Diaries,\u201d tell us she \u201ccalled Andy and said, \u2018Can you go [to the restaurant] with me tomorrow night?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant closed not long after.<\/p>\n<p>But early this year, Vienna-based filmmaker and founder of Artdeluxe, Robert Hofferer, contacted Fox because her signature was on the table.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Warhol was photographed with the table in Parkett magazine.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It seems the piece had passed hands for decades, we\u2019re told. Its last owner, Reinhard Diethardt, purchased it for $2 million in 2005. He recently commissioned Hofferer for a museum project dedicated to his collection. \u201cThe table will play a central role,\u201d Hofferer told us.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Collector Reinhard Diethardt purchased the Warhol piece for $2 million in 2005.  <span class=\"credit\">2026 Richard Bayerl\/Artdeluxe<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fox will reunite with the table that is now believed to be worth around $8 million in October. \u201cIt\u2019s found! I wasn\u2019t lying. There\u2019s proof,\u201d she quipped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did [the painting] in 10 minutes.
