About KOICA Scholarship

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), established in 1991, is a
governmental agency dedicated to providing Korea’s grant aid programs. KOICA aims
to foster friendly, cooperative relationships, and mutual exchanges with partner
countries by offering support for their socioeconomic development.

KOICA is involved in a diverse range of initiatives, including the Fellowship Program, Korea Volunteer
Dispatching Program, Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief, Public-Private
Partnership, Bilateral and Multilateral Projects, among others.

The program provides a wide range of benefits to the grantees (attendees) covering living expenses while in Korea for the minimum period required to complete the program.

General Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

  • Be a government official, an employee in the public sector, or a researcher in a state institute working in his/her home country with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Be nominated by his or her government.
  • Have sufficient command of both spoken & written English to take classes conducted entirely in English and to write academic reports and a thesis in English.
  • Have a positive attitude and a strong will to get adjusted to a multicultural environment and to understand the hosting country’s culture.
  • Have good moral characteristics to endure student life on campus.
  • Be in good health, both physically and mentally, to undergo the program.
  • Pregnancy is regarded as a disqualifying condition for participating in this program.
  • Having tuberculosis or any kind of contagious disease is regarded as a disqualifying condition for participation in this program.
  • Have not previously received a scholarship or participated in a scholarship program, including a KOICA Scholarship Program, from the Korean government.

Documents to Submit for KOICA Scholarship 2024

A. KOICA Application Documents:

  1. KOICA Application Forms (Part1~Part4)
    • Ensure the applicant’s English name matches their passport to avoid delays in visa acquisition.
    • Submit all required documents via email to the KOICA overseas office or Korean embassy. Procedures may vary, so verify details with the respective office.
  2. Letter of Recommendation from the applicant’s government (ODA or Abroad scholarship program)
  3. Scanned copy of the applicant’s valid passport
    • Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the expected return date.
    • Renew passport if it won’t be valid until the end of the program.
  4. Interview conducted by the University (2nd step: Phone/Video Interview)
    • University will provide details and schedule, and applicants must follow instructions.
    • Some universities may require mandatory essay tests.
  5. Interview Result: KOICA HQ will collect and finalize successful applicants.
  6. Final Acceptance (Jul. – Aug.):
    • KOICA office or Korean embassy announces interview results.
    • Informs visa procedures and required documents.
    • Participants are responsible for obtaining a ‘Study Abroad Visa [D-2].’
  7. Preparation and Arrival (August):
    • Successful applicants prepare visas and receive additional vaccinations as directed by the university.
  8. Arrival in Korea, orientation, and medical check-up.
    • Applicants passing the medical check-up can start the degree course.

B. University Application Documents:

  • Required only for successful applicants selected by KOICA overseas office or Korean Embassy.
  • Send original admission documents to the university through the designated DHL service (instructions in Program Information).
  • Refer to the university’s guidance for details, and consult the Program Information on the KOICA CIAT website for additional information.
