The 30-year-old has inevitably been linked with a romantic return to boyhood club Celtic, while even Hollywood-backed Wrexham have been mentioned in dispatches as potential suitors should they earn promotion to the Premier League this May.
With Robertson now in the twilight of his Anfield career, Liverpool simply cannot afford to be caught cold on the left side of defence.
That’s before one even factors in Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek international is spending the season on loan at Roma, but with no option to buy included it’s very much a temporary fix rather than a permanent solution. Tsimikas signed a contract extension in 2023 which ties him to Liverpool until 2027, meaning the club must soon decide whether he is part of the long-term plan, a saleable asset,
Between Robertson’s uncertain future and Tsimikas’ limbo, it is no surprise recruitment staff are widening the net.
According to a report from Sport Witness, Liverpool have turned their attention to Brazil and are closely tracking 18-year-old Santos full-back Vinícius Lira as part of their succession planning on the left.
The club’s South American scouts have been following Lira for several months, monitoring his progress as Santos prepare him for a bigger role in the first team. Born in October 2007, Lira is regarded as one of the standout academy products at the Brazilian giants in recent years and is already earning senior minutes.
Standing at around 1.87m, Lira brings a rare physical profile to the position, coupling his height with strong athleticism and long strides that allow him to surge up the flank and overlap with ease.
In the 2025 youth season alone he made roughly 40 appearances for Santos’ academy sides, scoring five and assisting five as they lifted state titles at both U17 and U20 level.
Lira’s path has been eased by Tottenham snapping up fellow Santos left-back Souza, with some inside the Brazilian club joking Spurs may have bought the “wrong” full-back according to the report. For now, Liverpool’s interest remains at the monitoring stage.
