A large crowd of supporters on Saturday gathered in Ibadan, Oyo State, to welcome former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the National Summit of opposition parties scheduled to hold in the city.
The summit is expected to bring together key opposition figures, including former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, alongside other political leaders from across the country.
Atiku arrives amid crowd reception
Atiku, who is among those seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election, shared a video of his arrival on his official 𝕏 handle.
The video showed a large crowd at the airport chanting and welcoming him as he arrived in the state capital for the political gathering.
He described his visit in a short message, noting that he had arrived in Ibadan for the opposition parties’ national summit.
Opposition raises concerns over alleged disruption plan
Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that there are attempts to disrupt the planned summit.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, Abdullahi claimed the opposition coalition was initially denied access to venues in Abuja before facing similar challenges in Ibadan.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of interfering with opposition activities, describing the situation as part of a broader pattern aimed at weakening political opposition.
Summit to go ahead
Despite the concerns, the ADC insisted that the summit would proceed as planned.
Abdullahi maintained that the coalition remained committed to holding the meeting, adding that opposition parties would not be discouraged by alleged attempts to frustrate their gathering.
