The Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB), in collaboration with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has directed private school operators across the state to provide evidence of payment of their annual renewal fees for the past three years.

According to an official directive issued by the Director of Enforcement and Compliance Operations, Rev. Fr. Terungwa Tor, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, school owners are required to submit the relevant documents to their respective Local Government Area tax offices on or before April 29, 2026.

The agencies stated that enforcement visits to private schools that have not complied with establishment requirements, quality assurance guidelines, and fee payments will begin as part of efforts to ensure full compliance across the sector.

They further warned that schools which fail to regularise their registration status or do not possess a valid BEQAEB Certificate of Consent may face sanctions, including the possibility of closure.

Operators were urged to promptly comply with the directive by ensuring that all outstanding obligations are settled and proper documentation is submitted to avoid enforcement actions.
