The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as completely false.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the state government said the online publication behind the report had spread misinformation and urged the public to ignore the story.
According to the statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally fit and fully engaged in carrying out his responsibilities as governor.
The government also clarified that the governor earlier received Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat during a routine meeting.
It explained that Hamzat visited to formally inform the governor of his intention to contest for the governorship, adding that the meeting was cordial and in line with normal official practice.
Akosile said the response became necessary to counter what he described as deliberate falsehood and to prevent Lagos residents from being misled.
He stated that the government would ordinarily ignore such claims but chose to respond in order to reassure Lagosians.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the report and treat it as fake news.
