Businessman Olakunle Churchill has reacted to the divorce petition reportedly filed by his estranged wife, Rosy Meurer, challenging its legal basis and insisting their relationship did not constitute a recognised marriage under the law.
His response follows reports that Meurer had approached the court to dissolve their union after about five years and two children, a move said to have come amid renewed public attention on Churchill’s relationship with his former wife, actress Tonto Dikeh.
In a statement shared on social media, Churchill argued that what existed between him and Meurer was only a traditional introduction and not a formal marriage conducted in a church or registered at a court.
He questioned how a divorce process could be initiated in court without what he described as a legally valid marriage in place.
Churchill also said he had not been officially served with any court documents notifying him of proceedings related to the dissolution of the relationship.
According to him, individuals unfamiliar with legal processes and media dynamics may have influenced Meurer’s decision to pursue the matter in court.
He further dismissed claims that Meurer had uniquely supported him during past controversies involving his former wife, stating that anyone else could have played a similar role if she had not been in his life at the time.
Reflecting on his past relationship with Tonto Dikeh, Churchill said both of them had made mistakes and have since chosen to forgive each other.
