A violent incident in the border town of Fotokol in Cameroon has led to retaliatory attacks against Nigerian nationals, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The unrest began on April 29, 2026, when a Cameroonian man was reportedly stabbed to death in the afternoon by a Nigerian suspect who has since fled. The killing quickly sparked anger within the local community.

In the aftermath, reprisals were reportedly directed at Nigerians living in the area, escalating into attacks that claimed the life of one Nigerian and left seven others injured.

Security forces, including troops from 3 Battalion (Mechanised) and the 24 Task Force Brigade, were deployed to the area to contain the situation and prevent further violence from spreading across nearby border communities.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore calm and stabilise the situation, while a search has been launched for the suspect believed to have carried out the initial attack.

The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with security agencies working to prevent further reprisals and protect affected communities.
