Liverpool are still widely expected to dip back into the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, even with the deal for centre‑back Jeremy Jacquet already secured.
The 20‑year‑old will join from Rennes in a move worth around million £60m including add‑ons, but he will only arrive in June and is currently recovering from surgery after a serious shoulder injury setback.
There is also Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation to iron out. Against that backdrop, it seems the club are doing their homework for potential replacements.
According to a report from BILD, Liverpool are among a number of elite clubs monitoring the Croatian defender, with Chelsea and Barcelona also said to be interested.
The teenager is currently on loan at Hamburger SV from Tottenham Hotspur, having signed for the North London side from Croatian outfit Hajduk Split in the summer of 2025 for a reported fee of £12 million. Rather than handing him a first-team opportunity, Spurs opted to send Vuskovic out on loan to Hamburg.
Hamburg’s sporting director Claus Costa has already confirmed there is no buy option in the loan deal, meaning he will return to Spurs this summer.
But Vuskovic’s performances at Hamburg have made it increasingly difficult to imagine him going quietly back to the Spurs bench.
In 24 Bundesliga appearances this season, the 193cm centre-back has scored 5 goals, won 69.2% of his duels, and averaged an impressive 7.34 FotMob rating – extraordinary numbers for a teenager playing in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues.
Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus has raved about his quality, stating: “At just 18 years old, he plays with the calmness of someone who has competed in three World Cups”. German reports have suggested his market value has now risen as high as €60 million.
With his contract at Tottenham running until 2030, any move would require significant negotiation – but Liverpool, Chelsea, and Barcelona are all said to be ready for that conversation.
