Death in Paradise shared some major news as its latest series came to an end on BBC One.
The 15th season of the popular BBC crime drama concluded on Friday evening (March 27), and just minutes later it was confirmed that it would be back for a Christmas special.
A post on the show’s Instagram stated: “That’s the end of this series, but the good news is, we’ll be back… at Christmas!” A Christmas tree emoji accompanied the announcement.
Fans had been “gutted” to discover that the latest instalment was the final one in the current series, with many sharing messages on social media expressing they weren’t ready to bid farewell to the officers on the fictional island of Saint Marie, reports the Express.
“How can it be the last Death in Paradise already?” another fan questioned on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Another fan said they were “gutted” and included a broken heart emoji, while someone else penned: “I really wish Death in Paradise was on every week.”
“Awww shame S15 is almost over, love this show,” one fan commented on Instagram.
“Looking forward to this episode cannot believe the series has finished already,” remarked another.
So viewers were delighted to learn that a festive instalment was in the works.
“Can’t wait…… Missing it already!!!” one fan wrote on X, while another stated: “Thank you for the BEST 8 weeks!! See you at Christmas.”
However, others reckoned it would be a challenging wait before they could catch up with DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) and his colleagues.
“Christmas omg that’s ages away,” one fan commented on Instagram. “I really wish there was more episodes in a series but this is why I binge watch old series to get me through until Christmas,” said another.
Death in Paradise launched in 2011, with its current 15th series commencing in January.
It is expected to return for a 16th series, with Radio Times reporting that star Shaquille Ali-Yebuah confirmed filming was set to begin on Guadeloupe shortly.
The actor, who plays Officer Sebastian Rose, stated: “Everything commences again. Back out to Guadeloupe, hurry up and get our tan back.”
