- Chris Sutton predicts the result of the Liverpool vs. Everton match
- The former Blackburn striker also has some warnings for Liverpool
- Sutton has praised the Red’s efforts against PSG
Chris Sutton believes Everton could ‘reel in’ Liverpool this Sunday, as he delivers a blunt assessment of Arne Slot’s trophyless debut season. Following the PSG heartbreak, the Reds have been warned that a Top 5 spot is far from guaranteed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Liverpool are out of the Champions League after their 2-0 (aggregate 4-0 defeat) against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter finals. Following this, a trophyless season is practically guaranteed for the Reds.
On the bright side, the club can now focus solely on finishing within the top five in the Premier League to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League. Liverpool’s road to that goal begins with the upcoming Merseyside derby against Everton.
Arne Slot’s side will certainly be eager to emerge victorious against their city rivals. Meanwhile, it looks like former Blackburn forward Chris Sutton has shared his opinion regarding the matchup, which Liverpool fans might not love to hear.
Chris Sutton makes huge prediction for the Liverpool vs Everton matchup
Sutton has recently spoken with BBC Sport and shared his views on the Merseyside derby. The former player first acknowledged Liverpool’s efforts against PSG, saying,
“I actually thought Liverpool did OK against Paris St-Germain in midweek and had a period where they took the game to them, even if they did not get the result they needed.”
However, the former player has also issued some warnings for Liverpool while predicting the result. He stated,
“Now this season is all about finishing in the top five for Slot, but Everton are a good side and, if they win this, they can reel Liverpool in.” He added,
“An Everton win was actually my first thought here, but I’ve changed my mind. I’m going to sit on the fence instead. Sutton’s prediction: 1-1”
Liverpool’s recent record against Everton
Liverpool have won three of the last five matchups, which includes the 2-1 home victory this season. The other two ended in one loss and one draw.
As Sutton mentioned, it will undoubtedly be a close matchup, further evident from some of the previous results. But honestly speaking, Slot’s side clearly has the superior squad. Whether they can perform upto their potential is a whole different question altogether, though.
Anyway, Liverpool know the importance of this match in holding onto or even improving their position in the league table. Let’s see if the Reds can bring their best onto the field against Everton and prove Sutton wrong.
