Liverpool supporters probably don’t want to hear Trent Alexander-Arnold’s name too often right now, given the manner of his Anfield exit at the end of last season and his swift reinvention in the white of Real Madrid. The wounds are still fresh for many.
Yet even from Madrid, Trent couldn’t avoid talking about Liverpool after Real’s stunning 5-1 Champions League aggregate win over Manchester City this week. Speaking post‑match, the former Reds vice-captain said:
“It was nice to get one over Manchester City, they’ve snatched a few medals from me and Liverpool. You know going up against Manchester City is always going to be tough, so we’re proud of the performance.”
That same Alexander-Arnold family influence is quietly helping Arne Slot off the pitch back on Merseyside.
According to Spanish outlet AS, it was Trent’s brother and agent, Tyler Alexander‑Arnold, who first forged the connection between Slot and renowned padel coach Alberto Cubero.
Cubero explained that he had become friends with Tyler while the right‑back was still at Liverpool, with the pair bonding over the sport at the club’s training base. “I met Tyler Alexander-Arnold, brother and agent of Trent, who was still at Liverpool; we became friends and they had two padel courts at their training ground,” Cubero said.
From there, Slot took padel so seriously that he hired Cubero as a dedicated coach, with the Spaniard now travelling regularly to Kirkby to put the Dutchman and his staff through intense sessions:
“Slot was looking for a padel coach and Tyler recommended me. That’s how I started giving him lessons.”
“He plays on the backhand side, he’s a very aggressive player. I think he’s been playing for six or seven years at least, he plays very well.”
It’s a small but fascinating detail in Slot’s Liverpool story and also shows that the Alexander-Arnold family are not looking burn their bridges with the Anfield club.
