Liverpool’s dispute with their own supporters over ticket pricing shows no sign of dying down, with fan groups now confirming that fresh protest action will unfold inside Anfield when Crystal Palace visit on Saturday.
The flashpoint dates back to late March, when the club announced that general admission ticket prices would rise in line with inflation for each of the next three seasons. It’s a multi-year commitment that made Liverpool the first Premier League club to lock in consecutive annual hikes of this kind.
For the 2026/27 season alone, season ticket holders face increases of £21.50 to £27, with projections suggesting some fans could be paying around £100 more by the time the 2028/29 campaign comes around.
Chief executive Billy Hogan has defended the move, pointing to an 85% rise in matchday operating costs since 2016-17 and framing the 3% bump as a fair response to uncontrollable utility and business rate increases. Supporters, however, have been unconvinced.
The backlash has been steadily building. Spion Kop 1906 announced earlier this month that their iconic flags and banners would be removed from the Kop for the remainder of the season, with only a Hillsborough tribute display permitted at the PSG Champions League tie.
Spirit of Shankly organised a pre-match demonstration before the Fulham game, distributing flyers outside the ground and unveiling a “No to ticket price increases” banner after 13 minutes – a nod to the potential 13% cumulative rise over three years. Chants aimed at FSG rang around Anfield, and Virgil van Dijk publicly backed the supporters’ right to make their voices heard.
Spirit of Shankly have now confirmed the protest will roll into Saturday’s Palace fixture under the banner “Show FSG The Yellow Card.”
Supporters are being urged to pick up yellow cards outside the ground before kick-off and raise them in the 13th minute, delivering what the group describes as a formal warning to John Henry over three years of rising prices.
Fan leaders have warned action will only escalate further – with walkouts and more open letters among the options being considered – unless the club returns to the negotiating table.
