Fans of Noughties nostalgia are in for a treat as ITVX has added a masterpiece to its library.
A huge comedy film from the Noughties is now available to stream for free after ITVX extended its movie library.
The 2003 flick boasts a stellar cast including Jack Black, Joan Cusack and Sarah Silverman, and it was the highest-grossing music-themed comedy of all time until the release of Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015.
The film, which is one of many movies on ITVX, was highly praised by critics when it was first released and it holds an impressive Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 92 per cent.
Even two decades later in 2025, it was one of the films voted for the Readers’ Choice edition of The New York Times’ list of The 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century.
School of Rock is the film in question and fans took to Rotten Tomatoes to share their thoughts.
One fan said: “One of the best movies of all time, Jack Black is phenomenal”, while another added: “Definitely one of the best Jack Black movies ever!”
A third shared: “What an entertaining, incredibly charming comedy. Jack Black is at his best, and Mike White really knows how to craft a charming story. It’s an all-timer as far as comedy goes.”
A fourth commented: “Name another movie like this? I honestly can’t. The kids, the adults, the story, the music, all one of a kind. Such a fun movie.”
The film was nominated for several awards, with leading star Black receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, and winning an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance.
A sequel film was even considered, but it is yet to come to fruition. Back in 2024, Black said he was more than ready to make a follow up film.
Speaking to the news outlet Joe, he said: “I’m ready. You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius. And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with White Lotus, the best show on TV.”
The film also spawned a stage adaptation by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which eventually closed in January 2019 after more than 1,000 performances.
Fans may also remember a TV adaptation of the film which starred Breanna Yde, Ricardo Hurtado, Jade Pettyjohn, Lance Lim, Aidan Miner and Tony Cavalero.
The series ran for three seasons from 2016 until 2018 on Nickelodeon.
