Alison Hammond has made a rare comment about her relationship as she has insisted that she is “absolutely in love” with David Putman, who is 22 years her junior
Alison Hammond has made a rare comment about her love life. The This Morning presenter, 51, has been dating David Putman, 29, since December 2023.
The star, who has gone onto a major television career since she famously broke a table on Big Brother in 2002, has admitted that she can understand why others may be keen to known more about their 22-year age gap but insisted that, at the end of the day, she is just happy in her private life.
She told the Daily Mail: “I completely understand why people are interested when there’s a 22-year gap, but what I find interesting is that it’s not as interesting when it’s the man who is older. Why is that? I just want people to be happy for us. We are absolutely in love.”

He wrote alongside the image: “Happy Birthday to my love,” and tagged her account. The couple looked smitten in the photo, with Alison flashing a beaming smile, while David, sporting a flat cap and glasses, gazed forward at the camera.
The former Strictly Come Dancing star, who has 21-year-old son Aiden from a previous relationship, has insisted in the past that the label of “toyboy” couldn’t be further from the truth when she sees it applied to her relationship with David.
After the pair had been together for almost a year, Alison told Good Housekeeping: “I can see how, on paper, you’d notice the age difference.
“But honestly, when we see the word ‘toyboy’ written about us, it bears no relation to what we have at all. Yes, I’m 22 years older than he is, but if you saw us together, you’d understand.
“People have said to me: ‘We get it now.’ He’s so mature and sensible, and I’m so not. And the things he says to me… they’re just so lovely.”
Speculation about engagement previously erupted when Alison wore a pink diamond ring on her left ring finger while hosting This Morning – sparking a string of engagement headlines. Addressing the rumours live on the ITV show, Alison laughed: “Oh my god, apparently I am engaged?! Oh, I have put this on the wrong finger…. Let me swap it over to stop these rumours.”
However, she later teased that she would be open to getting married for the first time. She said while hosting the daytime show: “I wouldn’t say no. I might marry myself…”
And she also painted a supportive painting of her relationship with David, who she praised for always having her back. She said: “He loves it. He just supports me. I don’t like to go into detail about him, because it’s my private life, and I want to respect his life as well. But you know I’m loved-up, everyone knows that!”
