Liverpool could be set for another summer of change despite spending £446million in a record-breaking 2025 transfer window.
With several areas still needing improvement, sporting director Richard Hughes may look to sanction player sales to fund further additions.
Mohamed Salah is already set to depart, while Cody Gakpo’s inconsistent form could push the club into the market for a new winger.
There is also uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson, both of whom are approaching the end of their contracts. Liverpool have been linked with Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, who has scored 33 goals in 42 appearances this season.
However, a move appears unlikely. Suarez is a central forward, while Liverpool’s priority is a right-sided attacker to replace Salah. In addition, he turns 29 this year – an age profile the club typically avoids – and the Reds only recently invested heavily in two strikers, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
Isak arrived after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards, while Ekitike has enjoyed an encouraging debut season in England and is pushing for a starting role with France ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, Robertson is being linked with a potential free transfer to AC Milan. The Scotland international has spent nine years at Anfield but has lost his place as first-choice left-back this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
Elsewhere, according to Talent Hunter, 16-year-old defender Zane Whelan has completed a move from Liverpool to Crewe Alexandra.
Whelan, who spent six years at Liverpool, signed his scholarship with Crewe in November but will continue training with the Reds until the end of the season. The right-back has already featured for Crewe’s U16 and U18 sides, making a strong early impression. Crewe Alexandra currently compete in League Two and sit seventh in the table with 63 points from 40 matches.
