Dominik Szoboszlai has provided the latest update on his Liverpool contract situation, with the Hungarian also reflecting on a massive win for the Reds against Everton
Dominik Szoboszlai says there is no update for him to share yet on talks over a new contract at Liverpool — but he has made it clear that he wants to remain at Anfield as he enters the prime years of his career.
This weekend, Liverpool won the Merseyside derby thanks to a last-minute header from Virgil van Dijk, and Szoboszlai made it clear afterwards that he’s keen to enjoy more moments of celebration like that with the Reds in the coming seasons.
“As I said (a few weeks ago), there has been no real progression, so I cannot say anything new about my contract situation,” Szoboszlai told reporters after the late win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

As you guys maybe know, my contract ends in 2028, so I am ready to go every day, every week, and then let’s see.
“Of course I see myself here in the long term, but as I say, it is not really in my hands any more. I love being here, as I said many times; I love the fans and I really like to be here. My family is happy. I’m completely relaxed.”
Results like these, of course, only make it even easier for players to want to stay. This was a first victory for Liverpool at Everton’s new stadium and the first time the Reds have picked up an away derby win since December 2021.
“It felt amazing,” Szoboszlai said. “We had quite a few corners and chances, like they did. But to win a derby like this in the last second, we couldn’t ask for more.
“We were happy for each other to get the three points but also for the fans, because we know what it means for them, and also it means a lot for us to win a derby.
“It was a long time (since Liverpool’s last away derby victory). Also last season away, we couldn’t manage to win, but this season we could.
“I’d rather win it like this than 3-0 or something, you know. This is more enjoyable to watch I think for the fans for both sides, actually. At the end, maybe they were the unlucky ones, but we are happy to take the three points.
“A win always changes the mood, but we have to stay on the floor and keep working hard every day. We have to keep fighting for the Champions League spots and it is going to be hard games ahead of us.

“It is always hard when you play against the teams that are close to you — Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace. You have to always be ready and to fight for them.”
This week, Arne Slot insisted that the future is bright for Liverpool, even after a tough campaign. On Tuesday, the Reds were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG, but bounced back here.
“I think what he said is right,” Szoboszlai said. “We brought in new players — young, talented players.
“We know what they can do and that they can help the team — that is why they are here. I’m really looking forward to playing with them for the next five games, for sure, and hopefully in the future as well.”
