Egypt boss reveals what he has heard about Mohamed Salah’s next club after Liverpool

The Liverpool winger revealed last week that he is set to call time on his Anfield career at the end of the season, and he has been linked a host of clubs across the globe

Egypt’s ‌national team director Ibrahim Hassan has warned Mohamed Salah against joining a Major League Soccer (MLS) club and revealed the Liverpool winger has attracted interest from European clubs.

Salah confirmed last week that he is set to depart Liverpool this summer, ending his nine-year spell as a Red. The 33-year-old may have just 10 games remaining, although that number could increase depending on Liverpool’s cup success.

Liverpool has agreed to let Salah leave for free at the end of the season, despite him signing a two-year contract last year. He has been linked with moves to a variety of leagues, including MLS. That speculation was bolstered by comments from league commissioner Don Garber, who said he would “love” to see Salah play in the USA.

San Diego FC owner Mohamed Mansour also told APF that Salah would be an “asset” to any team. “Wherever he will go, he will add a lot to that league and to that country and to that team for sure,” he added.

But Hassan, brother of Egypt coach, Hossam, said he does not think a switch to MLS would suit Salah.

“Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan told On Sports. “I have heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league.

“A move to the Major League? He would be far too out of the spotlight. You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember [Lionel] Messi now, I don’t even try to watch him.”

Instead, Hassan feels Salah would be best suited to moving to the Saudi Pro League.

“If ⁠he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good ⁠option, especially with big names such as Cristiano [Ronaldo].”

Reports have suggested that Saudi chiefs are planning an offer for the Liverpool legend. The league has a long-held interest in Salah, who is one of the most famous figures in Arab world.

Omar Mugharbel, Chief Executive for the Saudi Pro League, confirmed in December that the division’s top clubs were keen to sign Salah.

“Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi League, but it is the clubs that are responsible for negotiating with players,” he told BBC Sport. “For sure, Salah is one of them [a target].”

However, reports have suggested that Salah’s chances of moving to Saudi Arabia could be impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
