Jurgen Klopp’s name just won’t leave the rumour mill. Over the past few weeks the former Liverpool boss has been linked with a shock return to the dugout at Atletico Madrid, while reports in Germany continue to suggest he could ultimately replace Julian Nagelsmann as national team coach.

Klopp has been working as Red Bull’s head of global soccer since leaving Anfield in 2024, but many Liverpool supporters are convinced he’ll be back on the touchline sooner rather than later – and some even dream of a second spell at Anfield one day.

Amid all that noise, former Liverpool man Gini Wijnaldum has revealed he’s been speaking with his old manager.

In an interview with Saudi outlet Koora, the ex-Reds No.5 thinks that Jurgen Klopp is not missing the managerial dugout and is enjoying “another part of his life” since leaving Anfield:

“We speak now and then through text or with a phone call, but it’s of course not as much like when you really work with each other,” Gini Wijnaldum said.

“But I think he’s enjoying another part of his life now, that’s a little bit on the outside of football instead of working as a manager at a club and doing all those kinds of things.”

“It’s a different kind of life and that’s also something different for him.”

“Of course, football is really intense when you’re a player or a manager. So, I don’t really know the motive, why he chose to do this or why he made these kinds of choices, but I can understand it if you work so long in football with so much pressure.”

For now, the reality is that Klopp remains committed to his Red Bull role and has publicly insisted he needed a break from the relentless pressure of being a manager.
