Death in Paradise viewers are calling for two characters to get their own BBC spin-off series.

For more than a decade, BBC audiences have witnessed numerous peculiar crimes play out on the fictional island of Saint Marie as the police team collaborates to crack each case.

Death in Paradise has proved enormously successful with viewers since its initial broadcast in 2011, with the likes of Don Miller, Kris Marshall, Ardal O’Hanlon, Ralf Little and Don Gilet leading the programme throughout the years.

Following the original series’ launch, two spin-off shows have proven equally popular amongst devotees of the programme.

Beyond Paradise charts DI Humphrey Goodman’s (Kris Marshall) existence away from the Caribbean island alongside his now wife, Martha Lloyd (portrayed by Sally Bretton).

More recently, BBC audiences witnessed the launch of Return to Paradise, tracking DI Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson), who has departed London to return to her native Dolphin Cove in Australia.

With two spin-offs already proving massive hits amongst Paradise enthusiasts, one individual raised questions about the possibility of future shows.

On a Reddit discussion, they enquired: “So, Beyond Paradise is a spin-off for this great show. If there were to be another spin-off, who would you like to see on it as DI?”

“Commissioner (promotion for a DI? ) and any of the team members, past, present, or future? Also, WHERE would you like to see it filmed? What kind of vibe are we looking for?”

It didn’t take long before comments flooded the thread, with one fan calling for two beloved characters to return to the franchise, reports the Express.

One fan wrote: “Honestly, I’d love to see Florence and Neville solving crimes while on their permanent vacation. Each new location, a new mystery that only they can solve.”

Numerous viewers were on board with the prospect of Ralf Little and Joséphine Jobert returning to their roles in the BBC franchise. One supporter responded: “That would be pretty cool, actually.”

While another chipped in: “Great idea. Sort of like Good Ship Murder.”

However, one viewer believes the focus should shift to Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, pushing for a prequel series.

They wrote: “A series set in the 70s and 80s that focuses on a young Selwyn, not as lead detective, but as a DC/DS. It would give us a few points of uniqueness.

“The show is focused on someone other than the lead detective It’s a period piece. We get to see Selwyn’s career as he develops from rough-around-the-edges new recruit uniform officer, we see his marriage, and its breakdown, and his friend Catherine, who is saving to buy a bar.”

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
