Emmerdale fans think they have worked out why Serena Sugden has suddenly turned up in the village and think she could be linked to a notorious serial killer who caused havoc in the village
Emmerdale fans think they have worked out why Serena Sugden has suddenly turned up in the village. The newcomer, played by Wicked star Casey Al-Shaqsy, turned up on the ITV soap as the long-lost cousin of Jack Sugden, and spurred Woolpack landlady Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) on into telling her partner Mack about the abuse she had faced at the hands of Dr Caitlin Todd.
Last year, Charity tried become a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah only to find out that she was naturally pregnant by Ross Barton. Still, she kept this all a secret and Sarah believed that all had gone to plan with the surrogacy.
Unfortunately, Dr Caitlin Todd, who had relentlessly bullied Sarah’s partner Jacob when she was in charge of him at the hospital, found out the truth and used it to blackmail Charity into handing over money. This all culminated in harrowing scenes where she sexually assaulted a drunken Charity.
In the latest episode of the Yorkshire-based serial, Charity went back to the police, having already come clean to her partner, to tell them everything but was warned that it was all a case of proving anything now.
At the same time, Serena had managed to make sure she would be sticking around in the village after Sarah offered her a place to stay during baby Leyla’s christening. Mack stormed out of the christening claiming he couldn’t put up with it anymore, and went to see Kev Townsend who told him he needed to seek “revenge” on whoever had hurt his family.
Clearly on the edge of another breakdown, Charity was confronted by her long-lost son Ryan in the pub, and he said: “Why are you acting like I hurt you? What did I do?” She simply said: “You were born,” as she ran off crying into the back.
At this point, Serena followed her to ask if she was okay but Charity dismissed her. Whilst all this was going on, Mack had headed back to the hospital to confront Dr Todd. She asked if there was a problem and he said: “Yes there is, Caitlin, and it’s not going away.”
However things are set to pan out between Mack and Dr Todd, fans think that they have rumbled just what Serena is hiding, theorising that she has turned up to investigate the death of serial killer John Sugden – and suggested that she could be his long-lost daughter.
Taking to Reddit, one fan said: “I think Serena is a true crime podcaster, a little different than usual, nothing sinister but just a little immoral or she thinks John did something to her mum.”
Another said: “A true crime podcaster would be a good angle. Morally dubious but redeemable as she seems fun, I hope she sticks around.”
A third wrote: “I’ll be very interested to learn what Serena’s deal is… if she is a bad egg, I have a feeling Kev ‘Tenacity’ Woody Townsend will be the one to reveal it. Also, can’t wait to see Kev and Lewis bond (eventually),” and a fourth begged: “wtf is Sarah thinking inviting Serena to stay with her & Jacob when she doesn’t know her & only has her word that she’s Robert’s cousin. Serena’s a bit too interested in that nutter John so I think she’s lying & maybe John was her daddy.”
