Horror moment Golders Green stabbing captured on CCTV

CCTV captured the moment a man was stabbed at a bus stop in Golders Green in north London today.

The victim can be seen standing by the bus stop in the sunshine and putting on his kippah, the traditional Jewish skullcap, as a man walks along the pavement towards him.

The attacker is then seen walking towards the victim wearing a dark jacket before lunging at him. The suspect appeared to strike at the victim’s neck as members of the public rushed to help.

The Met Police have said an investigation is underway after two men – one in his 70s and one in his 30s – were stabbed in north London.

Rabbi Levi Schapiro, from Stamford Hill’s Jewish Community Council (JCC), spoke to the Mirror from the hospital where the two victims were taken minutes after the attack.

He confirmed both victims are from his area – and that one of them is a teacher who works in Golders Green. One is in a “serious condition”, the rabbi said, and the other is “stable”.

He told the Mirror: “This is a terrible attack on our community. This happening every day and for many of us it feels like there is no end in sight.” The four ambulances that were burnt the other week were the ones that would be responding to this.”

In a statement released this afternoon the force said officers responded following reports of people stabbed in Highfield Avenue at 11:16am.

The suspect also attempted to stab police officers, cops said, and was Tasered before being arrested. No officers were injured.

The Met said local officers and armed officers attended, alongside the London Ambulance Service. Earlier today the Jewish community neighbourhood watch group Shomrim London reported their members had detained the suspect until police arrived and made the arrest.

Two men – one in his 70s and one in his 30s – were treated at the scene for stab wounds. Both have been taken to hospital and both are in a stable condition.

“A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder,” police said. “He was taken into custody, where he remains. We are working to establish his nationality and background.”

The investigation into the attacks is being led by specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing who are working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the full circumstances and any links to terrorism.
