A man today pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of 10 people on a packed train.
Anthony Williams, 32, was arrested in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, after the incident on an LNER train from Doncaster to London on November 1. He appeared at Cambridge Crown Court today where he denied a total of 21 counts.
Williams is charged with ten counts of attempted murder, one of actual bodily harm and one of possession of a bladed article relating to the train attack. He is also accused of the attempted murder of a 17-year-old on a DLR train at Pontoon Dock in London on the same day.
Williams is further charged with trying to kill a 14-year-old boy in Peterborough on October 31. He is also accused of trying to kill a 22-year-old man on the same day in the city.
Williams faces a further charge of affray, which allegedly took place at Ritzy’s Barbers in the town on October 31. He is also accused of stealing a pack of knives worth £15 from an Asda in Stevenage.
The court previously heard the two counts of attempted murder and the attempted wounding were alleged to have happened at around 7pm on October 31. The affray at the barbershop allegedly happened at around 7.20pm, and the theft was alleged to have taken place at around 10.30pm.
Prosecutor Faye Rolfe said the common assault allegedly took place at around 7am on November 1. Armed police swooped on Huntingdon station on November 1.
It is believed a knifeman boarded the service at Peterborough and began an attack soon after the train departed at around 7.30pm. Witnesses on board the train described how passengers were trampled and hid in the toilets screams rang out.
One said he initially thought it was a Halloween prank before being left covered in blood. A total of 11 people suffered severe injuries in the stabbing spree and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Williams was remanded into custody ahead of a trial on October 26.
