A man has been charged with murder after a body was found at a Bronze Age stone circle in the Peak District following a summer solstice event.
Isaac Clare-Watts, 26, was found dead at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle in Stanton Lees on Monday, with officers claiming his life had been taken in the “most brutal way.”
The qualified joiner worked for Nottingham building firm Frank Goulding Ltd, which described him as a “very popular member” of its team.
Szymon Babynko, 23, was later arrested in connection with the incident.
The Polish national, of Commonwealth Way, London, has since been charged with murder. Babynko has also been charged with attempted murder in relation to an incident in Hady Lane, Chesterfield, on June 25.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Derby Magistrates’ Court today, the police said. A 41-year-old man had also been arrested on suspicion of murder but has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
Mr Clare-Watts joined Frank Goulding Ltd in 2016 to pursue a career in construction. He developed into a “very skilled joiner” after completing a joinery apprenticeship, the company said.
A tribute released by the company read: “Isaac was a very popular member of our team and decided last year he wanted to take some time and go and see the world, in particular spending some time in Thailand to develop his Muay Thai skills, which was a passion of his.
“We are all very saddened to hear the tragic news and our prayers and sympathy go to his family.”
Detective Inspector Tony Owen previously said Mr Clare-Watts’ life had been taken in the “most brutal way”. He said: “I am urgently appealing for anyone who attended the summer solstice event over the weekend to please speak to officers as soon as they can.
“A young man’s life has been taken in the most brutal way so it is vital that myself and the team build up a clear picture of the exact circumstances surrounding his death. This is why we urgently need to speak to everyone who was at the scene.”
