Cops in Wyong, Australia, found the body of a boy with ‘significant injuries to his arm’ in a discovery the force said was ‘extremely confronting’

An investigation has been launched to establish if cannibalism was a factor in the death of a four-year-old boy – as his mother is charged with murder.
Cops in Wyong, New South Wales, conducted a welfare check at a property on Byron Street after a 32-year-old woman visited the police station.
Inside the unit, officers found the body of the dead child, with alleged significant injuries to his arm in what Superintendent Chad Gillies described as an “extremely confronting” scene.
On Sunday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that cannibalism was being examined as a potential factor in the incident. Supt Gillies said, in a press conference, that he would not speculate.

“There is a domestic relationship to the child,” he continued. “The 32-year-old female and the four-year-old child lived at the unit together.”
Neither the woman nor the boy can be identified for legal reasons. Gillies said the woman was known to police and detectives will work “methodically” to investigate the case.
“We try to understand what’s happened, why it’s happened, and from my perspective, we owe that to that little boy to make sure that we get the exact circumstances and present them to the court in due course,” he said.
The woman did not appear in court for a bail hearing. The case will return to court on September 1.
