Netflix fans don’t have long to catch up on a beloved comedy series that has been compared to Gavin and Stacey
Netflix viewers don’t have long left to stream the series dubbed ‘better than Gavin and Stacey’.
Acclaimed sitcom Catastrophe will be leaving Netflix on Saturday (April 25), much to the disappointment of fans.
The sitcom, which first aired in 2015, is created and written by Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney. The pair also lead the cast as Irish primary school teacher Sharon and American businessman Rob, who first meet at a bar in London.
The show’s cast also includes Ashley Jensen as Sharon’s frenemy Fran, Mark Bonnar as Fran’s husband Chris, and Carrie Fisher as Rob’s mother Mia Norris.
After a successful first series, Catastrophe was renewed for another three instalments, which aired in 2015, 2017, and 2019.
All 24 episodes are currently available to stream on Netflix, but you don’t have long to immerse yourself in Sharon and Rob’s messy lives, as the show will leave the streamer in just days.
Despite ending seven years ago, Catastrophe still remains popular among audiences and critics.
It currently boasts an impressive 98% critics score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while the audience rating is 92%. Viewers have continued to praise the series, with many branding it “better than Gavin and Stacey”.
“This show is better than sleep. I kept seeing trailers for this and finally one night I watched episode one. Immediately hooked, and ended up watching the entire season throughout the night” one person wrote on IMDb.
A third said: “Catastrophe may be the best written show in several years. All six episodes in the first season crackle with the best of England’s dry humour and America’s unflappable confidence in the face of impending disaster.”
A fourth viewer echoed the sentiment, saying: “This show is perfect. A spectacular series you can watch in one sitting. Love it,” with another similarly sharing: “I’m in awe of this series.”
A sixth fan commented: “I wish I knew about this show before now. I was just browsing, looking for comedies. I have a really hard time laughing at most comedies, but I tend to like British comedies. This is absolute gold. This really needs to be around more. I wish more people knew about this show. Very underrated!”
