One of the greatest science fiction shows of the 21st Century is about to expand with a new spin-off series coming soon
A critically acclaimed sci-fi show is about to reveal the other side of the story.
Motherland star Anna Maxwell Martin is taking on a totally different role in an upcoming alternative history science fiction drama.
Apple TV has just dropped the first trailer for Star City, a brand new historical drama set in the world of their smash-hit sci-fi series For All Mankind.
The popular streaming show is set in a parallel timeline to our own, in which the space race between the United States and Soviet Union never ended.
When the Russians become the first nation to successfully reach the Moon, the US is emboldened to push space exploration even further, eventually colonising Mars by the 2010s.
The upcoming spin-off will take viewers back to the 1960s and unveil the first Moon landing from the Soviets’ perspective, with Martin portraying senior KGB agent Lyudmilla Raskova.
Star City’s stellar ensemble cast also includes Rhys Ifans (House of the Dragon) as the Chief Designer for the project, as well as various astronauts and officials played by Agnes O’Casey (Black Doves), Adam Nagaitis (A Thousand Blows), Alice Englert (Dangerous Liaisons), Josef Davies (Young Wallander), Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man), Solly McLeod (Tom Jones), and Priya Kansara (Bridgerton).
Expectations for the upcoming For All Mankind offshoot will be exceptionally high as the original drama, which is currently in the middle of its fifth and penultimate season, is considered one of the best sci-fi shows of the decade.
An IMDb user called it “One of the best sci-fi series I’ve ever seen” in their rave review.
“For All Mankind is one of my favourite sci-fi shows that I’ve ever seen and that’s not hyperbole,” they continued. “I really can’t get over how much I loved this show. It’s a sci-fi show where Russia beat us to the moon and the great space races never ended. It may start off a little slow for some but after a few episodes you’ll be hooked.
“It gets more exciting the further into the show you get. It’s a character driven show that takes you into the lives of NASA astronauts and their families. The visuals in this are amazing and how they take real footage and real life videos and intertwine them with fiction into the show is awesome.
“This is an intense sci-fi series that must be watched by any true sci-fi fan.”
