Former Beatles performer Paul McCartney has been banned from Reddit after sharing gig content via a link from his intimate LA show over the weekend, which was a ‘phone free’ zone

Paul McCartney has been banned from Reddit after posting snaps from his intimate LA show over the weekend. He shared photos and videos from the first of his two performances at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

The former Beatles performer, 83, wanted to gift his fans with some of the content, due to the show being a ‘no phone’ event, and uploaded a Dropbox link filled with goodies and invited fans to share them on social media with the hashtag #PaulRocksTheFonda.

He wrote online following the show: “Hope you enjoyed the show at Fonda Theatre last night. As last night was a phone free experience we wanted to make sure that you had some memories from the show to share with friends, family and love ones.”

His account was then banned from the platform, with many believing that the Reddit moderators may have flagged the link as a spam, however this hasn’t been confirmed if it was an automated action or not.

An online user wrote: “Many who are commenting might not know that there is a Reddit admin system that flags, removes and bans some posts and users automatically, before mods can examine the post and they decide what to do about it afterward. In this case I wonder if the link to a dropbox caused the problem.”

Another person blamed it on the fact that the account hadn’t posted anything for five years, writing: “The real answer is reddit is petrified about LLM bots manipulating its users (again lol) after that study last year showed how easy it was so they have an extremely sensitive ‘spam’ ban filter that catches real accounts constantly”.

It comes as McCartney will release in his first album in over five years. The album, The Boys Of Dungeon Lane, set to be released this spring, will feature a collection of rare and revealing glimpses into memories he has never shared before in songs.

The first single is called Days We Left Behind, a deeply intimate and nostalgic song that reflects the emotional tone of the project.

Speaking about Days We Left Behind, Paul said: “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool.

“It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class.

“We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”
