Manchester City midfielder Rodri was withdrawn late on in his side’s vital Premier League victory against title rivals Arsenal and Pep Guardiola has issued an update on the Spaniard
Rodri will undergo tests for a possible groin injury, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed. The Spanish midfielder was taken off in the second-half of City’s vital Premier League victory against Arsenal.
And while Guardiola believes it is too early to rule him out long term, he has confirmed that City will be forced to keep a close eye on the midfielder.
Speaking on Sunday, he said: “I don’t know how long Rodri will be out. “[It’s the] groin I think the doctor said but we will see. We will make a test tonight or tomorrow.”
A long-term injury will be another blow to City, with Rodri having struggled for fitness this season. The 29-year-old has made just 16 Premier League starts this season, having suffered with knee and hamstring problems.

That follows a season in which Rodri made just eight appearances after sustaining a serious knee injury. City will certainly need his services as they attempt to seal the Premier League crown once more.
Their victory against Arsenal on Sunday saw them move just three points behind the north London side with a game in hand. They are next back in action in midweek as they take on relegation-threatened Burnley.
While Guardiola says City have boosted their chances to win the Premier League, he insists that Arsenal are still favourites. The Spaniard added: “I am happy because we can extend the hope. Maybe it goes until the end, we will try.
“Momentum changes. People said to me that the momentum from Arsenal is bad. What I saw today wasn’t a bad momentum. They are in the semi-final of the Champions League, where they haven’t lost a single game. Momentum shifts in one instance.
“The reality is just one thing: they are top of the league. One ahead on goal difference. We have to enjoy it, celebrate it, take the good things. But don’t lose the focus. In three days we go to Burnley.”
Away from the Premier League, City could potentially claim a domestic double before the end of the campaign. Guardiola’s men take on Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup semi finals next weekend, with Chelsea and Leeds the other two semi-finalists.
