Mohamed Salah has yet to announce his next destination, with the 33-year-old set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The Egyptian forward has spent nine years at Anfield, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League, but now prepares to embark on the next chapter of his career.
Where Salah will play next remains unclear. Saudi Pro League clubs are in the mix, with Al-Ittihad having been linked with a bid in the past, while a European club could also be an option.
MLS has also been mentioned as a potential destination, though Egypt’s football director Ibrahim Hassan has advised that Salah should avoid a move to the United States if possible. Hassan also confirmed that he has heard of interest from two other clubs, though their identities remain undisclosed.
“Personally, I’d prefer he stay in Europe,” Hassan told ON Sport. “I’ve heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league.
“A move to Major League Soccer? He would be too far from the spotlight. Salah wouldn’t be remembered, just as I no longer remember [Lionel] Messi today; I don’t even try to watch him.
“If he doesn’t receive any offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would also be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano [Ronaldo] there.”
Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has become one of the club’s greatest-ever players. He has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances – third on Liverpool’s all-time list.
Multiple Saudi Pro League clubs, including Al Ahli, Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ittihad, are interested in signing him on a free transfer. Salah is viewed as a potential successor to Cristiano Ronaldo as the league’s marquee figure.
However, according to Win Win, Salah does not align with the league’s recent strategy of targeting younger players with resale value, despite the strong interest.
An official source at the league told winwin: “Regarding the league, Mohamed Salah does not fit into the league’s recent strategy of signing younger players who have resale value later.”
“All media rights have now been sold for the next five seasons, so there is no increase in television broadcast revenue, but of course Salah would be an amazing name to add to the Saudi League.”
The “Thamania” network holds the television rights to broadcast Saudi Pro League matches in Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East, including Egypt, via both a TV channel and an electronic app, with the agreement running until 2031.
