It has been a rough spell for Liverpool.

The momentum from earlier in the season has slowed, and results in March have raised real concerns.

A draw against Tottenham Hotspur was followed by defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

That run has left the club sitting fifth, fighting to secure a Champions League place.

There is also uncertainty behind the scenes.

Arne Slot is under pressure, and reports of tension have only added to the noise.

On the pitch, the bigger issue is clear.

The attack needs refreshing.

With Mohamed Salah set to leave at the end of the season, Liverpool are entering a major transition.

Names are already being discussed.

Yan Diomande is being pushed as a key target.

Michael Olise and Yankuba Minteh are also in the frame.

There is even reportedly interest in Anthony Gordon, although that depends on outgoings.

Still, it feels like Liverpool need more than just wide options.

And now, that search has now taken a serious turn.

Reports from Correio da Manhã now claim Liverpool are showing “intense interest” in Luis Javier Suarez of Sporting CP.

The striker has been outstanding this season, scoring 33 goals and providing seven assists in 42 games.

His performances have not gone unnoticed.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle United are said to be “fighting tooth and nail” to secure his signature.

It is being described as a full-scale battle, with both clubs pushing hard ahead of the summer window.

Suárez’s rise has been rapid.

His two goals against Paris Saint-Germain in January boosted his reputation.

Since then, he has become central to Sporting’s attack under Rui Borges.

He is now a key player for Colombia as well.

Sporting are in a strong position.

The striker is under contract until 2030 and has an €80m release clause.

The club plan to wait until after the World Cup before accepting offers, hoping his value increases further.

From a Liverpool fan’s view, this is one to watch closely.

The need is clear. The interest is reportedly real.

Now it depends on whether the club are ready to meet the price and win this fight.
