Adebayo Adelabu, the immediate past Minister of Power, has dismissed claims that he resigned from the Federal Executive Council without informing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Adelabu said reports suggesting he failed to consult the President before stepping down were false and misleading.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Femi Awogboro, the former minister explained that his decision to leave office was taken with the full knowledge and approval of President Tinubu.

According to the statement, Adelabu received the President’s blessing before tendering his resignation and did not act contrary to the wishes of the Presidency.

Oyo governorship ambition

Adelabu recently resigned his position as Minister of Power to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move has sparked political discussions in the state, especially as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

Reaction to rumours

The statement also accused critics of spreading unfounded claims in an attempt to create controversy around his exit from the cabinet.

It added that some opponents were uncomfortable with the large number of supporters who reportedly welcomed Adelabu back to Ibadan last Thursday.

With his resignation now confirmed, attention is expected to shift to Adelabu’s next political steps and the shape of the APC governorship race in Oyo State.
