The pause in the season is usually met with frustration, but given Liverpool’s inconsistencies in 2025-26, the break comes as a welcome relief. Last year, Reds fans were preparing for Premier League title celebrations.
This season, however, uncertainty dominates, with supporters unsure what to expect in the remaining fixtures following inconsistent results. Liverpool’s defence of their English championship has been lacklustre, and inconsistent performances have left them in fifth place.
Arne Slot, last season’s hero at Anfield, now faces growing calls for change amid the club’s struggles. Despite these issues, there is still much to play for.
Champions League qualification remains crucial, and silverware is within reach, with Liverpool in the FA Cup and Champions League quarter-finals.
After the international break, the Reds travel to Manchester City for the FA Cup before heading to Paris Saint-Germain for the first leg of their two-legged Champions League tie.
Injuries continue to affect selection. Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, and Wataru Endo remain sidelined with long-term issues, while youngsters Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns are still unavailable for first-team action.
Alisson Becker missed the Brighton game due to injury, where Giorgi Mamardashvili deputised. Uncertainty remains over when Alisson will return to the first team. The Brazil international is a major doubt for the trip to Parc des Princes.
Hugo Ekitike limped off in the first half against Brighton last weekend after lasting just nine minutes at the Amex Stadium. He appeared to be in considerable pain and left the pitch in tears, raising concerns of a serious injury.
Despite this, Ekitike was able to join the France national team for their double-header against Brazil and Colombia, scoring against Brazil and making a second-half appearance against Colombia.
Mohamed Salah, unavailable at Brighton, is set to be fit for Liverpool’s first outing since confirming he will depart at the end of the season.
Federico Chiesa made a late substitute appearance at Brighton but subsequently withdrew from the Italy squad due to injury, while Alexander Isak continues his rehabilitation from the fractured leg he suffered in December.
Isak hopes to rejoin team training later this week, though the Champions League quarter-final first leg at PSG next Wednesday is considered a more realistic target for his comeback.
Arne Slot will be eager to secure some silverware this season after Liverpool struggled to mount a successful defence of their Premier League title.
The Reds have already progressed further in the FA Cup than last season, when Plymouth Argyle famously knocked them out in a shock defeat. Liverpool have lifted the FA Cup eight times in their history, with their most recent triumph coming in 2022.
