BBC viewers have just discovered what they say is the “best thing on TV”.
Popular comedy series, This Country was a huge hit with viewers when it first aired in 2017 and nine years later it has found a new set of fans that “absolutely love” the show.
The Bafta-award winning mockumentary series, written by brother and sister duo Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper, is based on their own experiences of growing up in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
The show ran for three series with the real-life siblings playing cousins Kerry and Lee “Kurtan” Mucklowe, living in a fictional and unnamed Cotswolds town.
Each episode focused on the everyday village lives of Kerry and Kurtan from the mundane to the outright ridiculous situations they get themselves into.
The first season focused mainly on Kurtan’s frustrations at country life and the second on saw Kerry searching for her father and the third season centred around the duo partly around with the town’s vicar.
The show last aired on BBC Three in 2020 but TV fans are still obsessed with the series today – and all episodes are available to stream for free on iPlayer.
Sharing their reaction on social media, one viewer wrote on Instagram: “Only just discovered this show in 2026 and absolutely loved every episode!! Not woke, not pushing agendas, just good.
“It’s genuinely funny entertainment, reminding me of my own youth in late 80s early 90s when humour was actually allowed and not political.”
Another fan commented: “Best show ever” A third said: “Fr. This show brings a smile no matter how bad one feels” One echoed: “Best show ever”
One wrote: “@daisymaycooper We need more” Another said: “Best show ever” Meanwhile another added: “My comfort tv show with pasta and sauce or a pot noodle.”
Despite its popularity, series creator and star Daisy has ruled out making a return to the show as Kerry.
Previously speaking to Radio Times, she said she is working on a new project with her brother, but gave two reasons why This Country cannot return.
The actress said that after her dramatic weight loss journey over the past few years, she has been sent messages telling he she is “no longer funny”.
She explained: “We can’t do This Country, though, because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve had my lips done. We’d have to say that Kerry’s had a tapeworm and been stung by a bee.”
