We might be getting the Steam Controller sooner if a new leak is to be believed.
It looks like Valve’s second go-around at the Steam Controller might be coming up for an imminent release as there are signs of life on the platforms back end.
Valve announced the new Steam Controller alongside the Steam Machine mini PC and Steam Frame VR controller last November. Initially meant to all launch at the same time in early 2026, the devices were delayed due to the ongoing RAM crisis, with their release dates pushed by to a vague 2026 window.
However, it appears that Valve is now secretly uploading unlisted unboxing videos of the Steam Controller to the store page, as spotted by GabeFollower on X.
“Valve uploaded the “steam_controller_unboxing_2026” app ID on Steam and you can add it to your library. Play button opens the unavailable video in a browser,” they write in a post accompanied by screenshot evidence.
The screenshots do indeed show that a video file titled ‘steam_controller_unboxing_2026’ was uploaded to Steam on April 20, indicating that a release date announcement could be right around the corner.
It’s not currently clear if this also means that the Steam Machine will also be getting a release date alongside the controller, or if Valve now intends to ship the devices separately.
There’s also four rear paddles at the back which can be remapped to any controller or keyboard input for ultimate control scheme customisability.
Valve hasn’t discussed pricing on the Steam Controller just yet, so here’s hoping we hear more about that at the same time as the release date drops.
