Pro-Wike Group Asks Tinubu to Remove Bwala Over Rivers Crisis Remarks

Daniel Bwala

A political group loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack presidential aide Daniel Bwala over comments linked to the political crisis in Rivers State.

The Rivers Restoration Movement said Bwala’s remarks amounted to an unnecessary attack on Wike and did not reflect the position of the Presidency.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the group, joined by 40 affiliated organisations, accused Bwala of creating division instead of supporting efforts to maintain peace in Rivers politics.

The statement was signed by the group’s Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, and Secretary, Sarima Akpata.

They alleged that Bwala, who serves as Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, was acting against the interests of the Tinubu administration through his public comments.

The group also claimed Bwala still maintains loyalty to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, despite now serving in the current government.

According to the organisation, Rivers State played a major role in Tinubu’s 2023 presidential victory, noting that it was the only state won by the President across the South-South and South-East zones.

They further alleged that Bwala’s criticism of Wike may be connected to the minister’s role in weakening Atiku’s chances during the last election.

The movement also faulted Bwala for speaking on Rivers affairs despite not being part of the political understanding reached after emergency rule was lifted in the state.

It said Wike remains the dominant political figure in Rivers and the leader of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope political structure in the state.

The group urged Bwala to stay away from Rivers politics and focus on his responsibilities at the national level.

It also asked President Tinubu to remove him from office, claiming his statements could damage the administration’s popularity in Rivers State.

The organisation ended by pledging support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, promising to mobilise voters in Rivers, the South-South and other parts of the country.
