Edson Brandao has previously revealed the secrets to his ageless appearance – but a lot of his motivation comes down to ignoring three fitness myths over the years

Who doesn’t want to look younger than their real age? Maintaining a youthful glow doesn’t come easy, with a good diet, fitness regime and skincare routine playing a huge part in that goal.

One man who takes pride in his appearance is Edson Brandao, 59, who often gets mistaken for someone in their 30s, if not younger. While there’s a lot which goes into the Brazilian’s routine, like consuming a three-ingredient drink on a daily basis, it’s also down to his positive mindset. Now the author, who released the book Young After 40: The Definitive Guide to Stay Younger and Healthier, revealed the three fitness myths he now ignores.

Discussing the matter with his 751,000 Instagram followers, he said: “I’m 59 years old and I’m still getting fitter. Stronger. Younger.

“Not in spite of my age. Because of what I’ve finally learned.

“For decades I believed the lie: ‘Your body slows down after 40, your metabolism gives up and your best years are behind you’. All lies.”

Talking about the “lies”, Edson claimed at the age of 59, he has more energy than at 39.

He continued: “My body is leaner. My mind is sharper. My sleep is deeper. I wake up excited, not aching. How? Not with magic pills or starvation diets.

“With real food. Consistency. And finally deciding I matter enough to try. I eat for my brain (pumpkin seeds, blueberries). I eat for my mitochondria (beetroot).

“I fuel my hormones (salmon, avocado, eggs). I protect my gut (ginger, garlic). I boost my metabolism (cinnamon, green tea, olive oil). I sleep like a queen (kiwi).

“I support my testosterone naturally (Brazil nuts, eggs). No perfection. Just progress.”

Edson also used the post to inspire others to take the leap. He went on: “So here’s my honest question for you: What’s really stopping you? Not your age. Not your past. Not your busy schedule.

“Because if I can start at 59 and feel this good… Imagine what you could do starting today. It’s never too late to rewrite your story. Your future self is begging you to begin.”

Edson often uses his social media platform to show off his incredible progress. Previously, he flaunted his “belly of a 19-year-old” where he credits his gains to eating smart, not less.

He also believes it’s all about moving your body and being consistent.
