Ganduje Raises Concern Over Neglect of Persons With Disabilities in Northern Nigeria

Former Kano State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed concern over what he described as the growing neglect of persons living with disabilities (PWDs), linking it to rising street begging in northern Nigeria.

Statement at Abuja Event

Ganduje made the remarks on Friday in Abuja during the 10th anniversary documentary premiere of Let’s Talk Humanity, a group focused on education for the deaf and blind.

He noted that many PWDs are being left without adequate support systems, which he said has pushed some into begging as a means of survival.

Concerns Over Social Inclusion

According to him, persons with disabilities are often marginalised, especially in parts of northern Nigeria, where access to inclusive opportunities remains limited.

He stated that greater attention to inclusive education, skills development, and assistive technology could help reduce dependency and improve livelihoods among PWDs.

Call for Government Action

Ganduje called on government authorities, development partners, and private individuals to prioritise disability inclusion in policy and implementation.

He stressed that empowering PWDs would not only improve their quality of life but also help reduce poverty and social challenges in affected communities.
