Former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has declared his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship election in the 2027 general polls.

Tuggar thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in government, saying the experience gave him deeper knowledge of governance and better prepared him to serve the people of Bauchi State.

The former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Gamawa, said he had resigned from his government position in line with regulations guiding political appointees seeking elective office.

Announcing his ambition, he said his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of the state rather than personal interest.

He stated that his background in business and farming had given him practical understanding of the challenges facing entrepreneurs, farmers, and herders.

Tuggar, who had previously contested for governor, said the experience taught him resilience and provided insight into the realities of the electoral process.

He also emphasised the need for prompt payment of workers’ salaries as part of responsible governance.

The governorship aspirant pledged to build on previous achievements while addressing past shortcomings, with priority areas including agriculture, rural development, and economic expansion.

He said his administration would support farmers with incentives and improve weekly markets that provide livelihoods for many residents across the state.
