The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Destiny, for allegedly planning to kidnap the aunt who raised him from childhood.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe said the woman took the suspect in when he was five years old and cared for him for about 10 years. According to police, he later returned to her residence with the intention of arranging her abduction.
Investigators said the suspect made two payments linked to the plot, first N200,000 and later N700,000, to men he believed would carry out the kidnapping.
The plan reportedly collapsed when the individuals he contacted chose not to proceed. Instead, they allegedly lured him in and handed him over to the police, preventing the attack.
While being questioned, the suspect admitted involvement in the plot and said he could not explain why he acted that way.
The victim, identified as his maternal aunt, said she was deeply shocked when she learned of the alleged plan. Despite their family relationship, she called for the law to take its full course.
Police said the suspect is currently in the custody of the Raiders squad of the Delta State Police Command while further investigation continues.
