The Senator representing Edo South, Neda Imasuen, has expressed confidence that his re-election bid would position the district to gain stronger influence in the Senate, particularly through what he described as the advantage of becoming a ranking lawmaker in the Red Chamber.

He made the remarks on Saturday in Benin City while presenting a 30-month scorecard of his performance to leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in the senatorial district.

According to him, attaining ranking status in the Senate would significantly expand his capacity to attract opportunities and resources to Edo South, adding that such a position would also benefit political leaders and constituents across the district.

Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, said his legislative tenure so far has been focused on programmes aimed at improving the lives of his constituents through targeted development interventions.

He described himself as an optimist with strong confidence in both state and federal government policies, arguing that sustained discipline and consistency in governance would ultimately strengthen national development outcomes.

He explained that his representation has been guided by what he called a clear vision centred on human capital development, which he said has influenced his legislative and constituency projects over the past 30 months.

Imasuen said his approach prioritises local economic development, with investments directed at education, skills acquisition, and empowerment initiatives designed to support young people and women, including targeted attention to the girl-child.

He noted that several students within the senatorial district have benefited from scholarship support schemes, while plans are underway to renovate and equip selected public schools to improve learning conditions.

The senator also highlighted vocational training programmes introduced under his watch, covering areas such as ICT, tailoring, welding, agriculture, bag and shoe production, and agro-processing, which he said were aimed at promoting self-reliance and economic dignity.

On healthcare, he said one of his major interventions has focused on reducing maternal and infant mortality through a programme that involves training and equipping traditional birth attendants to support prenatal and antenatal care for women with limited access to formal health facilities.

He added that the initiative is being implemented under the supervision of the Edo State Ministry of Health and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure compliance with established medical standards.

In the area of infrastructure, Imasuen said his office has completed the first phase of key road projects, including a 3.5-kilometre Osasere Osayogie/Utekon Bypass Link Road with drainage systems on both sides in Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

He also referenced the completion of a 2-kilometre stretch of Irokhin Road in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, noting that further extensions of the project, including links from Ogan and other areas, are already included in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

Imasuen called for unity among constituents and urged political stakeholders to avoid divisive rhetoric, stressing that collective decisions should prioritise the overall benefit of the district.

He also reiterated his readiness to continue serving for another term if re-elected, arguing that continuity would allow him to consolidate ongoing projects and deepen development impact.

At the event, former Edo State Deputy Governor Pius Odubu supported the call for unity within the party, urging members to avoid discrimination among aspirants and to rally behind whoever emerges through the party’s process.

The presentation attracted a wide range of APC leaders, including members of the Edo State House of Assembly, former Senator for Edo South Matthew Urhoghide, former Oredo Local Government Chairman Osaro Obazee, and other political stakeholders from across the senatorial district.
