Gunmen invaded Furyam Takzul community in Kantana Ward, Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, killing two residents and abducting five others, among them women and children.
Residents said the attack happened at about 12:05 a.m., when the armed men stormed the community in large numbers, causing panic and forcing villagers to flee their homes for safety.
According to local sources, the assailants opened fire sporadically as they moved through the community, creating widespread confusion and fear among residents.
The gunmen were said to have operated for several minutes before whisking away five people to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the Youth Leader of Furyam Takzul, Haruna Khalid, said the community had been left devastated and traumatised by the attack.
He stated that two persons were killed during the invasion, while five others, including women and children, were abducted by the attackers.
Khalid added that the gunmen struck unexpectedly and shot indiscriminately, deepening panic across the community as residents struggled to escape.
He further noted that the incident has heightened fear among residents, many of whom are now concerned about the possibility of further attacks in the area.
The youth leader called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and strengthen security surveillance in vulnerable communities across Kanam Local Government Area.
