At least 29 people have been killed after suspected terrorists attacked Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to local authorities.
Reports said the attackers invaded the area late on Sunday and opened sporadic gunfire for several hours, killing residents and destroying property.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri confirmed the death toll during a visit to the affected community, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
In a message shared on X, the governor said he visited the scene where residents were brutally killed and condemned the assault as an attack on humanity.
He assured grieving families that the state stands with them and warned the perpetrators that justice would be pursued.
Fintiri also said the government would rebuild the affected community and remain resolute in the face of violence.
According to him, security operations are being intensified to restore peace in the area and prevent further attacks.
No group had officially claimed responsibility for the latest assault as of the time of the report.
However, Adamawa and neighbouring parts of the North-East have faced years of insecurity, with repeated attacks often linked to Boko Haram and other armed groups.
The incident comes only months after another deadly attack in February, when more than 24 people were killed in Kirchinga village in Madagali Local Government Area. Homes, shops and places of worship were also destroyed in that assault.
Reacting to the latest killings, Amnesty International described the violence as horrifying and called on authorities to improve civilian protection and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
